Past vs. Present vs. Future

I had a lot of fun watching the World Cup this year. I haven’t watched it that seriously since 1994 soccer-cobi-jones-212x300when it was in the United States. Soccer was my life and I had a crush on Cobi Jones. (Ah, celebrity crushes!) But after I stopped playing and my world started to revolve around drama club and more attainable boys, I completely lost interest in the World Cup.

This is kind of a pattern for me. For example, once I’ve completed a project or I’ve met all my goals at a particular job; I move on and don’t look back. I got in a heated discussion about this with a friend recently. She likes to live too much in the past. I like to look to the future. Who is right? Maybe neither one of us. Maybe the right answer is some sort of divine balance of past vs. present vs. future. Maybe there is no right answer.

What I realized, though, is that there’s still a place in my heart for soccer and that’s ok. But now I enjoy it on a different level than I did when I was a kid. So my interests have evolved into something more grown up. That isn’t so bad. In fact, it can be kind of fun. Embrace the past, look to the future, live in the present.
